Our new River Mix boilies have been an idea I have had for a while now, a specific bait designed for use on rivers for targeting carp. Not having any experience and only a little knowledge of this area of carp fishing, i turned to a couple of local “Experts” on river carping. They have a good few years and a great many captures from rivers in the south of the country.
After a few discussions, we replicated a bait they had designed a few years ago, but had not been able to source the ingredients any more. As with most field testing we had a few tries at getting the recipe correct, the flavour levels spot on, the hardness perfect and the texture just right.
The testing has gone really well, Zeth (the group leader) has been out half a dozen times this winter, in some terrible conditions, and has banked carp almost every trip, with a couple of special river Leney’s as trophies to show for his hard work. The catch rates were better than he had expected, and just what i had hoped for, so, once the river season is open again in 3 months time, those river carp need to be watching over their shoulders, as there is now a bait that puts the advantage back into the anglers hands.
The bait itself is a combi-bait, has a course texture due to the inclusion of birdfoods and crushed seeds, it’s highly digestible, red wine style colour and a firm feel. The flavour levels are high to compensate for the washing out effect of the flowing water, with the Sticky Toffee and Maple flavours coming from natural sources. The food
value to the bait is the magic ingredient, this is what keeps the fish coming back for more.
Hopefully we will be hearing more from Zeth, Pete and Andy later in the year, with some good catches of some old river monsters. Check out the news pages for captures of fish by our “River team”.
